The FIS Congress has been in full swing since Sunday, 31st May. About 1’100 persons are participating at the 49th edition of the FIS Congress which is of great significance, focusing on the development of the FIS disciplines and steering the direction of the International Ski Federation with all its many facets, to achieve success in a modern and innovative form now and in the future.

First Council decisions First Council decisions

The FIS Council has had a full agenda and has made its first decisions, including the following: On invitation of the Bulgarian Ski Association, the Calendar Conference and Organiser Seminar 2015 will take place in Varna (BUL) at the Golden Sands Resort in the first week of June 2015.

On the first day of the 49th FIS Congress, the Council granted an observer position to the Athletes’ Commission. This marks the first time in the history of FIS that such a position has been available for athletes.

The final push is on for the seven candidates to host the FIS World Championships in 2018/2019. Four Nordic, two Alpine and one Freestyle Skiing/Snowboarding Candidates made their final presentations to the FIS Council on 3rd June 2014.

While at Congress, FIS took the opportunity to interview the Men’s and Ladies’ Chief Race Directors Markus Waldner – in his new role - and Atle Skaardal, as well as Guenter Hujara who has retired as Men’s Chief Race Director after the 2013/14 season and taken on a role as FIS Alpine Technical Expert.
