The World Championship team

GB Freestyle are sending their biggest ever Team to the The Freestyle Ski World Championships. With 13 athletes and 11 support staff covering five disciplines it is probably the biggest team for any Skiing World Championships, Freestyle Alpine or otherwise.  The competition takes place in Deer Valley, USA between the 2nd and 5th of February.

The GB team includes athletes competing in Aerials, Ski Cross, Half-pipe, Moguls and Slope-style and the team starts arriving on the 28th of Jan to prepare for the most important World Championships in recent times.

The International Olympic Committee executive board declared in October 2010 that it looked favourably on the inclusion of ski Half-Pipe and Slope-Style at Sochi 2014 provisional on the 2011 World Championships being a success. Both organisers and athletes are working to ensure there is no excuse for the IOC not to rubber stamp the disciplines inclusion.

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme TASS support a number of the athletes financially and are providing physio support as well as team suits.

Iain Mackay - World Championship TD

BSS Freestyle not only have some of the top skiers in the World they also have one of the most widely respected officials in Iain Mackay. Iain Mackay will be the Technical Delegate (TD) for both the Moguls and Aerials events at the Freestyle Ski World Championships in Deer Valley USA (2nd - 5th February). The TD is the Guy that makes sure the course is the ideal arena in which the athletes can perform. He makes sure that it's safe, the right, size, shape and gradient etc and runs according to the rule book. An unsung posiiton but integral to the success of any competition.

Iain a former Freestyle athlete has been involved in the organisational side for nearly 30 years and was there at the birth of modern Freestyle Skiing. Not only is he tasked at officiating at World level events he represents GB on FIS committees and is a powerful voice on how the sport develops and is a great advocate of GB Skiing.
