ROLLERSKI NEWSLETTER - 10th October 2010

Hello All,

I just wanted to let you know / remind you of what's coming up in the world of rollerskiing.

In particular, there are a few courses, races, and events coming up which are well worth doing, to build up fitness and technique. Now's the time to do it - all that rollerskiing effort now will pay off when you get to snow!

As ever, it's been great to see so many people get involved this Autumn, and to see the major improvements in our regular skiers. We're very much looking forward to the season ahead, and hope to catch up with you soon.

DORNEY - the next Dorney course is next Sunday, 17th October, and we have two more days in November and one in December. This month we'll have beginners and interemediate / advanced groups, and there will also be the chance to do the Snowsport England 'Proficiency Awards', with SSE's newly appointed coaching chief, Dagmar Junghanns. For more info on this see

HYDE PARK 6-WEEK COURSE - we've added a 6-week combined Skating-Classic rollerski course, beginning Saturday 27th October, you can find it here - All our rollerski courses are listed at

RACES - the London 4-hour race is this afternoon (Sun 10th Oct), but if this is too late notice, the Wessex Races are still a fortnight away and are much shorter - they range from 3k to 9k in distance, which individual and relay races to choose from. If you'd like to join our team, please do if you can. For more info, see

CLUB - our new regime of club training under Katya, Flic and Levi continues. Our time trial course had to be changed due to gritting on our usual route, but it was evident how people are improving. Levi (anagram - 'Evil') has brought some great North American ideas and experience to the sessions, and has been making everyone work hard. We have started rollerski hill sessions on Highgate Hill on Tuesday evenings, 7.15PM, meeting outside Tesco's Swain's Lane, N6 6AS, maybe the best hill in London. Skiers round the world are doing lots of work on hill rollerskiing (see YouTube vids below) and we can do this too, especially in Highgate and Richmond Park (Wednesday evenings). This is a great 'quality' training session, and again is a good investment in your winter form.

SKI MARATHON CALENDAR - this is now updated for 2010/11, see

SHOP - our first delivery of cross-country skis should take place in about a week. I'm hoping to get in more extras - ski bags, gloves, clothes, waxes, etc shortly. See

HOLIDAYS - our February trip to Hochfilzen is nearly full and we'll probably close it to bookings shortly. But there is still plenty of space on the trip to Obertilliach in January and I have been speaking to Alan (who returns mid-November) and we will probably add a second Hochfilzen week. For more information see

BIGGEST ROLLERSKI MEET EVER? 257 skiers met at the Gatineau Park in Canada, see

YOUTUBE VIDEOS Here's a good one from Norway - and from Marcus Hellner in Sweden

Anyway, I promised this would be short, so no more. Just send me an email if you need any more information on any of the above.

Best regards,
Iain & the Team
