ROLLERSKI NEWSLETTER - 12th September 2013
Back to rollerski
The build-up to the Winter has begun
We are now busy with Winter preparations. We've a full programme in the months ahead, with beginner courses and training sessions in Hyde Park and Dorney Lake, and at Castle Combe in Wiltshire & Redbridge Cycle Circuit.
Starting us off this season, we have a 'Masterclass' with the GB Nordic Team's Head Coach, and some new courses coming up. We hope you can join us.
Our shop is well stocked with equipment. The new season's Pro Combi boots have arrived, and we are taking orders for cross-country skis.
Read on for details of all our sessions and plans, and other rollerski and cross-country ski related news.
Hyde Park 4-week courses, regular training
Commencing Saturday 21st September, we have these 4-week courses -
Beginners, Skating technique:
Intermediates, Classic technique:
For training regularly, you can find details of our Hyde Park group here - http://rollerski.co.uk/club.html
For our seasonal 'Team Dorney' group, details are here - http://rollerski.co.uk/dorney_team.html We had a great group at Dorney last year. Parachutes are a new addition and should further enliven sessions!
Masterclass with Roy Young
The British Nordic Ski Team's Head Coach will be coming to do a masterclass in Hyde Park on Saturday 21st September. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the latest in ski technique from one of cross-country skiing's most respected coaches / managers.
All proceeds from the session will go to the British Nordic Ski Team, and Roy will be doing a talk afterwards, to which everyone is invited. See - http://rollerski.co.uk/nr126.html
1-day courses: Castle Combe, Dorney Lake, Redbridge
Our 1-day courses have always proven a good way to learn & improve rollerskiing. This month we have a one-off course at Castle Combe racing circuit in Wiltshire, as guests of the Wessex Biathlon club (see below). This circuit is great, 3km, and you'll see some good rollerski racing during the day. See - http://rollerski.co.uk/events4.html
Then in October our monthly Dorney Lake sessions return, and the first of three sessions at Redbridge Cycle Circuit in Essex takes place. These venues are excellent, both are set in beautiful parkland surroundings, and both have very good surfaces. Dorney has miles of flat tarmac, and Redbridge has some flat areas, but also a very good hill for uphill and downhill practice.
You can find out more here -
3 rollerski races remain - The London Pursuit (7.5k Classic, 7.5k Skate), The Wessex Sprints, at Castle Combe and The London 1-hour Race. You can join our team for all of these races here - http://rollerski.co.uk/nr091.html
Or enter with the organising clubs directly.
Rollerski racing is excellent training, and all these races are good days out.
Our Cross-Country Ski Trips
Ex-GB cross-country skier, Alan Eason, will be leading our 3 cross-country ski trips this year. New for 2014 will be a trip to the Dobbiaco-Cortina Ski Marathon in Italy.
These weeks fit in neatly with our rollerski instruction, and the emphasis is on time on snow. They offer an excellent mix of instruction, skiing and (for anyone who wants to) marathon racing in beautiful snow-sure locations. You can find more information here - http://rollerski.co.uk/cross.html
Our online shop is filling up with the new season's kit. We have the new 2014 Salomon Pro Combi boots in stock, new Craft rollerski / XC ski socks, and new Swenor Skate rollerskis.
We have excellent prices, with particularly good deals on rollerski and cross-country ski 'packages'. We can source Salomon's top S-Lab cross-country skis, which our spies tell us are particularly competitive this season, especially the skating ones.
See - http://rollerski.co.uk/buy.html for full details.

Go Rollerski: 14-25 year olds
Together with Snowsport England, next month sees us starting an initiative to get 14-25 year olds into rollerskiing. Starting initially with two venues - Bushy Park and Brooklands - we hope to 'inspire a generation', with 6-week courses leading on to regular training.
More information will follow, but here is the plan so far - http://rollerski.co.uk/nr128.html
Roller skiing in Cambridge? We've been asked by a few people to run a course / start a club in Cambridge. We'd need about 6 to run a course, and 12 to run a regular, sustainable club. Could you get in touch if you'd be interested? Our instructor Mantas would be very happy to come over from Northampton to run it - he already has a number of private clients in the area, and the guided bus ways are excellent for roller skiing.
