Snowsport England Update.

The Whole Sport Plan is in!

In October, Snowsport England presented its Whole Sport Plan to Sport England.  The plan shows Sport England how we will use their funding to Promote, Celebrate and Grow participation of Skiing and Snowboarding in England.

The process started last January! In order to formulate the plan  we have spoken and taken advice from several of our  Hub Sites, County Sports Partnerships, Local Authorities and Sport England.
The announcement of our funding, for use between the years of 2013-2017 will be made in December. We will update you as soon as we have been informed.

This is going to be an exciting period for Snowsport, especially as the Winter Games are to be held in Sochi (Russia) 2014. We have seen the power of what the London 2012 games gave to the nation and we hope that these games also inspire a generation to take up the sport!

Get Fit for Ski

New research, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has found that a third of people risk serious injury on their first winter sports holiday because they are not sufficiently fit enough when they hit the slopes.  To help holidaymakers stay safe on the slopes, the FCO and the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) have teamed up to produce a Winter Sports Checklist. ABTA has also produced a leaflet - 'How to have a safe and healthy holiday in the snow'.

ABTA research also found that a third of winter sports holidaymakers do not take out travel insurance that includes specific winter sports cover. This, combined with people not physically preparing, suggests that a significant number of holidaymakers risk sky high medical bills if they injure themselves on the slopes.

"We strongly advise anyone going on a winter sports holiday to ensure their travel insurance policy covers them for all winter sports activities," said Lynda St Cooke of the FCO. "We see many cases where British nationals have ended up with massive debts at the end of their holiday because their policy didn’t cover them for what they were doing."
"It's important to have an up to date European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as well as comprehensive travel insurance and to read the small print,"

Snowsport England offers its very own exclusive Insurance. Click here to find out more and make sure you are covered.

Winners of Guess the Snow

Snowsport England ran a competition at the British Ski and Board Show in Birmingham for the opportunity to win one of two Dare 2b jackets. Entrants were required to count how much "snow" was in the box.

Various methods for calculating the Snow were demonstrated from structural engineers doing mathematical equations, to those who simply tried to count it!

However the actual amount of snow that was in our box was ........... 2560.

Our lucky winners are Allan Sheffield and Ryan Clark, who guessed 2,500. Well done and we will be in contact soon regarding further details of delivering the jackets.
