English Alpine Championships 2013 in Bormio, Italy on 17th - 22nd February 2013

Matthew Owens RIP
It is with great sadness that we announce that Matthew Owens, a keen and active ski racer for
Bowles and LSERSA, finally lost his battle with cancer on 12th February 2013.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The funeral was on Thursday March 7th at St. Mary of Nazareth Church, The Avenue, West Wickham, Kent. Purple was Matthew's chosen theme colour.

Donations in Matthew's memory should be to his nominated charity, which is Headway Bromley. Matthew had been attending their Monday morning sessions since last year and had made many friends and as always a huge impression of him has been left behind. Headway offer occupational therapy, advice and most of all friendship to people with head injuries. It is a less known organisation with very little funding and therefore low profile in the public eye. It was of great importance to Matthew and his family knowing that he had Headway on a Monday.
Cheques should be made payable to Headway LSENWK and sent either to the family or Killicks Funeral Directors at 112 High St., Town Centre, West Wickham, Kent, BR4 0ND.

News about Chemmy Alcott
Prior to the World Championships the Evening Standard published an article entitled Chemmy Alcott's career is heading downhill fast and subtitled "British skier ready for world championships after horror break"
Racer Ready has published several articles recently:
5th February: Alcott battles her heart and the conditions in Schladming to come 24th in the Super-G
6th February: Alcott suffers crash in training for Downhill
8th February: Mystery surrounds cause of injury to Alcott
Later on 8th February Chemmy posted on her Facebook Page: "I really didn't want to write this update but there is no hiding from it anymore. I will not be able to compete in Sunday's World Championship DH - the event i have been looking forward to for months. 2 days ago in training i hit the nets at just over 100kph and cartwheeled. In doing so I have caused excessive stress in the plated fracture in my right leg. I have been recommended by Dr Fink, the guru of Austrian medical practitioners, to rest for a few weeks. This is by no means the end, I have shown my strength before - yes, the timing blows but better now than in a year! On a positive note the big jolt to my leg may help the old injured to further heal so i am likely to come back stronger. Thanks to all my fabulous Canadian Team staff and teammates for the incredible support - see you soon x"

Chemmy Alcott News Update

Sadly Chemmy gets no funding from the British Ski Federation. Apart from a limited amount of sponsorship she has to pay for everything herself. An animated 'donate' page has been set up on her web site and she would welcome any contribution however small or large. Go to for more information and to assist.
