The board is pleased to announce the following new board members and welcomes them onto the Snowsport England Board: Jemima Barnes (Bromley), Fergus Bissit and Dan Hardie

Congratulations - Gwenderlyne Southall - Volunteer of the Year
The clubs and volunteers within Snowsports do an exceptional job year after year. This year Snowsports England instituted some awards to celebrate this work and to recognise and reward this work by acknowledging the achievements and dedication of the clubs and volunteers who make it possible for people to enjoy and improve their snowsports experience to the best of their ability.
The awards were presented at this years British Ski and Snowboard Show in Birmingham at the end of October.
The volunteer of the Year award went to Gwenderlyne Southall of Folkestone. She is also Vice Chairman of LSERSA and is very active in running skiing in Kent and the Region.

The Dame Kelly Holmes 'Backing Talent in Kent' Event
The Southalls were invited to the Dame Kelly Holmes 'Backing Talent in Kent' Event on Sunday 21st November, 2010. See their report for more.

Gwenderlyne said: "Dame Kelly was a true inspiration and despite already investing her time and energy into the event she stayed behind and met the demands of photos and autographs with what seemed unending patience and enthusiasm. She was incredibly generous in nature and made a big impact on the whole family. Thank you Dame Kelly!"

News about Aaron Tipping
After a great first season in the senior ranks Aaron was looking forward to his second season until disaster struck in November 2006. With both bones in the lower part of his left leg broken he was unable to ski for over 12 months and unable to race for a couple of seasons. This season is his first full season of racing since the accident.
Aaron has found it a hard road back to fitness over the last three years and funds are running short. In order to maintain high standards British skiers like Aaron have to spend a lot of time travelling and training in the mountains.
If you or your company would like to help, either financially or in kind he would love to hear from you. Email: awtipping@ntlworld.com.   His web site.   His FIS page.

Villars 24 Hours Charity Race - 16/17 January
Three LSERSA racers, Mikki Thompson, William Thompson and Laurence Willows, took part in the Villars 24 Hours Charity Race on 16th & 17th January 2010 as part of the Sutton Valence School team. This is a race where team members must ski continuously over 24 hours.
The Sutton Valence team skied 465.6 km over the 24 hour period and came 35th out of 75 teams, a result that they were really pleased with, particularly since for the five others from the school, Tim Dorning, Nigel Dorning, Ben Sutton, Miles Sutton and Adam Sutton, this was their first experience of ski racing outside the schools race. In addition the night skiing was not helped by a heavy snowfall which made the course slow going.
The objective was to raise money for Disability Snowsport UK and Cancer charities and to date they have raised over £1000 and are still collecting donations.
See the web site http://www.bcv24hvillars.com and click here for more details, including how to make a donation.
