November 2013

The build-up to the Winter is in full swing

Rollerskiing rocks the streets of London

Well, some streets.  Actually maybe just my street.  I went rollerskiing last week up Swains Lane, N6, home to the most epic hill in London.  Also there were a few 'long-boarders' doing their thing on the downhill, while I was working on the uphill.  All we needed was some Gluhwein and cowbells to get us in the mood on the 'Highgate Alps'!

It is a hill I'd recommend to anyone - it's too dangerous to ski down, but you get a  great workout going up it (you can find stats online re vertical climb / steepness, etc).  If our latest plan comes to fruition, we may well see hordes of kids on the hill (details of our Junior rollerski programme below).

Coming up more immediately are a couple of important weekends.
Our 1-day rollerski course at Redbridge is this Sunday, with Dorney Lake following on Sunday 8th December.  Both look like being big days of skiing.  There's also some serious rollerskiing to be done in Hyde Park, and we'll be there each Saturday until Christmas.

It's a busy time of the year for our shop too, and we'll be flat out over the next few weeks to get rollerski and cross-country ski orders orders out.  It's hard work and hard training all the way to Christmas!  Bring on the snow.

Redbridge rollerskiing

Redbridge Cycle Circuit on Sunday.  We have our 1-day course, and if you'd like to come along and practice you are very welcome - it's a great circuit.  We'll also be back for a day in January.  See - http://rollerski.co.uk/events16.html

Hyde Park rollerskiing

We've had several great beginner groups in Hyde Park this Autumn, we hope a good number will keep going.  Details of our club's programme are here http://rollerski.co.uk/club.html and details of New Year Hyde Park courses are here http://rollerski.co.uk/events.html

Our regular training posse is getting better and bigger.
The club now offers very good training for serious and recreational skiers alike, with a good mix of hard work and technical sessions.

This Autumn / Winter we've focused more on the quality of beginner sessions than getting in great numbers of people, which I think has been a really good move.

Cambridge rollerskiing

Our inital Cambridge courses have been very popular, so we'll be running skating and classic beginners' sessions again in the New Year, see - http://rollerski.co.uk/events18.html   We are also planning to start regular Cambridge 'club' training in January.  [In addition, another group has just started in Cambridge with young children, aged from 4-8.  Let me know if you'd like more information and I'll put you in touch].

Juniors

This is our big new project for 2014.  For more information see - http://rollerski.co.uk/gorollerski.html

Dorney Lake

Is our most popular venue after Hyde Park.  Our next session is Sunday 8th December, with a whole lot of dates confirmed for 2014 -  http://rollerski.co.uk/events3.html

Shop

Plenty of orders coming and going at the moment.  If you need 'custom' skis before Christmas, it's best to order by Friday 6th December.  Otherwise we have a good stock of rollerskis, skis, boots, poles, etc, see - http://rollerski.co.uk/buy.html

On-snow, Austria & Switzerland

Alan Eason, our on-snow coach, was recently in London to do some coaching in Hyde Park and Dorney Lake.  He heads to Austria on Saturday, for a season of skiing, teaching and racing.  Details of our trips to Austria and Switzerland are here - http://rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

GB athletes start the season

The British cross-country skiers and biathletes are off to a good start.  Andrew Musgrave finished 13th in the first Norway 'FIS Race' with all the big Norwegian names in attendance.  You can follow the progress of the GB teams at http://www.britishnordic.org and http://www.britishbiathlon.com
