Ryding is one of Great Britain's most talented Skiing
Athletes, part of the British Senior Alpine Team and competing on
the World Stage, he has come a long way since learning to ski at his
local dry slope with Pendle Ski Club and just keeps on improving.
Looking back at his early days Dave commented "when I was eight, I was
whizzing down the slopes at the French Alps resort of Samoans like a
natural, I loved it!!!! I was always the first back on the lifts to go
Since he first started to race on the dry slope circuit at the age of 8
he progressed to racing on snow later than most at the age of 12. With
successes in his racing and showing true passion and drive he made it on
to England Ski Team at the age of 16.
During the 2006 season Dave competed as part of the British Development
team, became the overall Junior Champion and was selected for the
British Senior Alpine Ski Team.
His first real taste of top competition came in 2009 at the World Championships in Val D'isere.
In January 2010 he was honoured to represent Great Britain as part of
Team GB in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing 27th in the
Men's Slalom and 47th in the Men's Giant Slalom. This was very much a
stepping stone in his career and has added to his motivation and desire
to reach the top of the sport
2011 winter season proved to be his most successful yet. Taking part in
the World Championship he placed a respectable 39th in the Giant
Slalom, in the Europa Cup Slaloms Dave managed to be placed in the top
20 twice, he was 3rd in the Slovenian National Slalom Championships and
2nd in the Hungarian National Slalom Championships before going on to
Win the British Slalom and Giant slalom titles in Meribel.
has used the summer training period to continue to raise his fitness
levels to ever new heights and improve his technique. This is already
showing its benefits with a 6th in the NC Slalom at Coronet Peak, a
southern hemisphere event on 3rd September with 17.73 FIS points.
Good Luck for the 2011/2012 Northern Hemisphere Season. Dave is currently in Norway for the First Europa Cup.
